ECCLESIAL THOUGHT (FIRST TERM WEEK ELEVEN) – OBEDIENCE

“Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”

  • Romans 13:1

OBEDIENCE

Rebelling against authority seems to be the cool thing to do these days. You see people on television running from the police or throwing stones through store windows in one kind of protest or another. Maybe you’ve even seen some religious organizations rebelling against the laws of government.

It may seem to be the cool thing to do, but it’s not the right thing. The bible tells us to respect those who are in authority. That doesn’t mean we have to agree with everything they say. It simply means we are to abide by what they say because they have the authority to say it.

We obey laws because it’s right, not because it’s convenient or popular. That takes personal discipline. It’s easy to call police officers names or cover walls with graffiti in protest, but it takes discipline to do what is right instead of what’s reactionary.

Obedience is a source of personal growth. Not only will it help you make adjustments in your home, it will help you in every other area of your life.

Obey or pay!
