ECCLESIAL THOUGHT (FIRST TERM WEEK THREE) – IMAGINATION

“All leaders are readers. The moment you stop reading, you stop leading.”

  • Stan Toler

IMAGINATION

You’ve heard it a million times. There are posters up all over your school: “ R-E-A-D.” In some schools students even get free pizza for reading a certain number of books. Why do you think reading is so important? Is it a trick by the “powers that be” to make your life miserable and to take all the fun out of life?

Actually, your teachers are more concerned about your mind than they are about ruining a good time. They know that all of us have a tendency to take the easy way. They know that it’s a lot easier for us to “veg out” with a soda, some tortilla chips, and the remote.

Did you know that your brain gets hungry just like your stomach? It needs nourishment and exercise just like the rest of your body. When you choose a book over the television once in a while, you jump-start your mind. You stir up your imagination. Getting your brain out of “neutral” and into “drive” keeps it alert and creative.

Give your mind a vacation from television. Grab a book instead of the remote.
