“We should all have one person who knows how to bless us despite the evidence…. Grandmother was that person to me.”
- Phillis Therony
It’s a different world, you think. Nobody knows what I’m going through. Sometimes, when you are young, you forget that people older than you have great wisdom. Sure, the world is a different place than it was fifty years ago. It really is a brand-new world. But life’s struggles are the same. Education, career, relationships, faith—your grandparents faced those same issues. They have something that a college degree alone can’t give. They have wisdom.
Wisdom combines learning with experience. Your grandparents understand your journey because they’ve been over some of those same roads. Spend some time with them. Learn about life. Find security in their love and admiration for you.
You don’t have grandparents? Borrow some. There are people in your community who need someone just like you. What about that older couple in your church whose children are grown or whose grandchildren live out of town? Adopt them. Get to know them. You will be amazed at the stories you’ll hear and the fun you’ll have.
Let your grandparents teach you a thing or two about living.
